Myanmar mainly enjoys a tropical climate with three seasons, namely;
Summer, Rainy Season and Mild Winter . The best time to visit
Myanmar is from October to March.
Population
The Union of Myanmar has a population of over 52
millions. The major racial groups are Myanmar, making up 70% of the
population and the rest are Kachin, Kayah, Karen, Chin, Mon, Rakhine and Shan.

Language
There are over one hundred ethnic groups in Myanmar, all with their own languages and dialects. The majority speak Myanmar (Burmese) although English is widely spoken.
Religion
80% of Myanmars embrace Therawada Buddhism. The rest practice Christianity, Islam, Hinduism or animism.

The local currency is the

Getting to Myanmar
By Air
Yangon, the capital city of Myanmar is only an hour's flight from Bangkok. It is also convenient to have a flight from Singapore and the flying hour is 2 hr 50 min. Moreover, Yangon has direct air links with Taipei, Hong Kong, Kumming, Kular Lampur, Karachi, Calcutta and Dhaka. The airlines that operate scheduled flights to Yangon are, Myanmar Airways International (8M), Thai Airways International (TG), Silk Air (MI), Malaysia Airlines (MH), Air China (CA), Mandarin Airlines (AE), Phuket Airlines Co., Ltd. By Sea
Tourists traveling
aboard cruise ships are allowed to disembark and visit places of interest. Visa on arrival is granted for cruise tours.
By Land
Visitors from China and Thailand can enter with entry permits
through checkpoints opened along Myanmar-Yunnan (China) and Myanmar-Thailand borders. Tourists from
Third Countries with passports
and visas are also permitted to enter through the border checkpoints. |
