Mount Popa
Popa 50 km East of Bagan known as the 'Oasis of Dry Zone' is actually a great extinct volcano
that active 250,000 years ago. Now it is a forest clad landmark rising to
1,520 meters from the flat surroundings. Mount Popa is famous for its wealth of medicinal plants and rare orchids, home for over (90) species of birds. The natural springs, flowers and wooded hillside greatly contrast to the arid lands surrounding it.
Taung-Ka-Lat
Taung-Ka-Lat, apart from the mountain itself, there is a tower like volcanic plug called Taung-Ka-Lat. On the top is picturesque complex of monasteries, pagodas and Buddhist shrines. Not only the view from there is breath taking but also rewarding after a 777 steps climb via a winding walkway.
The Mount Popa area has also been designated as a National Park, a perfect place for Eco-tourism.
