Mrauk U

Mrauk U located about 800 km to the South West of Yangon, was an ancient city of Rakhine Kingdom in 15th century. It is well known for its old temples with wall paintings of Indian cultural influence. It is accessible by boat trip along the Kaladan River from Sittway which takes 2½ hours. Regular flights from Yangon to Sittway takes an hour and a half.

Places of interest are:

  • Ma-Ha-Mu-Ni Shrine, one of the famous pagodas in Myanmar is situated 30 km from Mrauk U

  • Shit-Taung Pagoda

  • Dukkan-Thein Pagoda

  • An-Daw-Thein Shrine
