Pyay (Prome)

Pyay is located about 285 km North of Yangon on the Eastern bank of the Ayeyarwaddy River. It is easily accessible by road, which takes about five hours.

Places of interest are:

  • Shwe-San-Daw Pagoda one of the most sacred Buddha Pilgrimage spot in Myanmar, whose umbrella (or the top most stupa) has double layer of Myanmar and Mon traditional style.

  • The ten kilometer North-East of the town is Tha-Ye-Khittaya (Sri Kestrel), an archaeological site of the ancient Pyu capital (5th to 9th century). 

  • Hse-Htat-Kyi pagoda,

  • Shwe-Phone-Pwint Museum 

  • Baw-Baw-Gyi Pagoda

  • Be-Be-Gyi Pagoda

  • Pa-Ya-Gyi and Pa-Ya-Ma Stupa

  • Shwe-Bon-Tha-Muni Pagoda by crossing the Ayeyarwaddy River over the Na-Wa-Day Bridge.

  • Ah-Kauk-Taung Paya where the Buddha Images were built along the river cliffs in the place where the the custom duties (Ah Kauk Taw) were collected during the ancient Kingdom.

  • Shwe- Nat-Taung Pagoda in Shwe-Taung 20 Km away from Pyay.

  • Shwe-Myat-Mun Buddha image, the only image that wear spectacle in Myanmar.
